Week 4 day 5: 20 WordPress training videos

Friday was amazing.  I was focused.  I knew that if I didn’t make the most out of my last “product day” I wouldn’t get another day to focus on my projects for quite some time.  So what did I do?  I got into super laser focused mode and produced 20 training videos.  The training videos will help those who either use or want to use WordPress for their blog, website or blogsite.  The videos will be available in about a month…actually I hope sooner as I know many clients have asked about this.

WordPress is very popular as it allows you to create free blogsites….pssst our websites www.techcoachforcoaches.com, www.techtoolsforcoaches.com and www.helpdeskforcoaches.com (once you log into the membership site) were all created with WordPress.

I will keep you posted!

Week 4 day 4: 6 training videos completed

Wow what a day!  I completed 6, count ‘em, 6 training videos!  There were barely any interruptions and little editing required.  It takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can pump out these training videos quickly!

Tomorrow I begin working on another project.  I am not sure if it will be a step by step e-book or a set of training videos.  More on that later.

Week 4 day 3: Back on Track

Yeah!  Greater success today.  I completed 2 training videos for an upcoming product.  Creating 2 training videos is more work than you think.  Here’s what happened when I was them:

  • the phone rang
  • an email notification window popped up
  • my internet slowed right down and it took forever for one thing to process and I ran out of things to say (thank God for the “pause” button)
  • I got distracted by the rain, wind, thunder, lightning and snow out my window (we had some crazy weather yesterday!)

So as you can see, although these training videos are only 3-6 minutes long it does take quite some time to create them!

Another thing I am working on is taking a previous joint venture project (teleclasses and class notes) and turning it into a product.  We are editing the teleclass recordings to offer an audio portion for our product and modifying our class notes into a guide + workbook.  Our first workbook is almost complete!  It’s exciting!

Tomorrow I plan on finishing those training videos and I’ll be sure to remove all of those distractions!

Week 4 day 2: When Product days are unproductive

What a day!

While I was trying to write my newsletter this morning, I had a few important family calls come through.  While on the calls one dog got sick and the other dog decided it was a good time to misbehave!  I finally got everything out of control and got my newsletter out 2 hours later than usual.

I try not to schedule calls during my “week of products”.  The reason why I do not schedule calls during these weeks is because it is a distraction. Although the calls may only be scheduled for an hour (or even less), you still lose the few minutes before the call because you are preparing for the call or you don’t have enough time to start working on something new.  Once the call is over, is it really over?  You may spend the next 15 minutes sending out an email that was requested during the call and while you are sending that email out why not reply to the emails that came in?  Then you may decided to visit that website that was mentioned on the call.  Before you know it, it’s been 1.5+ hours since you last did any work on your products.

So what happened to me yesterday?  I had 45 minutes between sending my newsletter and getting on a scheduled monthly meeting with my mastermind group.  In that 45 minutes, I walked the dogs, made lunch, made a coffee, ate and got on the call.  Luckily I was one of the first ones on and I was able to run back into the kitchen and get my coffee.  After the call, I had to send out some emails to the group and saw an email from Andrea Lee regarding a project we’ve been working on.  In her e-mail she wrote:

“Are you okay with me sending a few little things over for our project today? or should i wait till next week? not joking, i’m being serious!”

How can I say no to Andrea Lee and to this awesome project centered around Coaching (I’ll reveal what it is in a future post).  I did tell my clients I would handle emergencies this week and so to me, when a project is this big and we are going live this week, it’s an emergency.  I took care of what was needed of me.

Speaking of emergencies I also took the sick dog to the vet and he’s fine now.  Before I knew it, it was 7pm and it was time for me to get ready for my soccer game.

So what did we learn?

  1. Do not schedule or take any calls during a product week.
  2. Do take care of your clients!
  3. Do expect things to throw you off your planned product week.  Just make sure to get back to your product week asap.

I’m getting back on the saddle now! I’ll let you know how it goes!

Week 4 day 1: Writing my book…finally!

This week is the week that I concentrate on creating products and finishing projects, I call it the “Week of Products”!

This week I am focusing on writing my book, creating a few training videos for a joint venture project, editing audio for another joint venture project and working on my upcoming guide “The Coach’s guide to WordPress”.

Today I worked on my book. I have been thinking about my book since October and I finally sat myself down and wrote out the outline for my book! I’m excited that it’s been done. I’m blogging about my struggles and successes of writing the book, so if you’d like to see what I’m upto visit http://techcoachforcoaches.com/category/writing-my-book/ frequently! :)

Week 3 day 5: Rest and Wordpress

Day 5 and I’m tired.  I am a bit "membershipped out" and decided to put that aside for a few days.  Instead I began working on a new product "The WordPress Guide for Coaches".  This guide will help Coaches set up their WordPress blogsite and maintain their blogsites on their own.  It will help Coaches keep their costs low and give them the confidence to work in WordPress.

Week 3 day 4: More work on the membership site

Today was a stressful day.  You see the "geek" in me came out to play and when I couldn’t figure out some programming code my ego started to deflate and I wasn’t going to go down without a fight. :)  I spent some time working on that and soon learned that I should take my own advice and hire the professionals to fix it.  For $50 they will be fixing the problem.  My time is worth more than that $50.

I decided not to launch the Help Desk For Coaches until the new year.  My current timeline was not very realistic and I’d like to have a few current clients login and provide their feedback before we open the doors.

I also began planning my upcoming products and due dates.  My main priorities are:

- getting the membership site ready
- renovating my main website www.techcoachforcoaches.com
- finishing up my freebie "The Technology Dictionary for the Non-Geek" (there are over 70 definitions already!

What are your top priorities for your business?
